Adjust the Fit of Your Boot

Heels can be widened; a toe box can be expanded to accommodate a hammer toe; a cup can be molded into a boot upper to relieve pressure on an ankle; boots can be altered to relieve pressure from heel spurs; leg length differences can be corrected by inserting lifts; we can even stretch some boots in length.

Lining Replacement

Abrasion and perspiration can decompose the softer fabrics of the heel lining. Consequently, lining repairs are common. We use a soft cowhide for a comfortable replacement.
First, the old lining is removed from the seams at the boot heel all the way to the instep and a pattern is made. Old heel padding is replaced and the new lining is glued, stitched, then hand-smoothed into the boot to reproduce the feel of the original boot. Lining repairs other than in the heel area can be done on request.

Collar Replacement

We can fabricate and replace internal or external collars for any type of hiking or ski boots. The old collar is used as a pattern for making the new collar from soft cowhide or nylon-laminated closed-cell foam. The new collar is glued and sewn into the boot. The collar and lining are carefully hand-shaped to remove all wrinkles and to ensure that the boot will again fit comfortably.

Stitched

Virtually any seam on any boot can be restitched. Stitching is done exclusively with woven nylon thread. This thread withstands abrasion and is superior in strength to commonly-used linen thread.

Hardware Replacement

A complete selection of standard boot hardware such as rivelets, eyelets, hooks, double and single posts, D-rings and buckles is kept on hand. Side-hinge rivelets can be replaced on most types of alpine ski boots or mountaineering boots. Linings are opened at the seams to replace hardwear that penetrates only the outer layer of boot upper material, and the lining seams are neatly restitched after the hardware is installed. Whenever necessary, we reinforce the underlying boot area before replacing hardware.
